Your food bank needs your support now!
Accessing food is a luxury that many individuals and families might not have. Food banks operate to provide emergency food for those who need it most. As the COVID-19 pandemic unfolds, food banks have been hit the hard in terms of meeting their soaring demand with a matching supply, especially due to stockpiling and travel restrictions.
North Bermondsey Community Support Network hopes to support our food banks by providing local food donation points 150m away from your houses. You do not have to leave your neighbourhood, to help your foodbanks
We have opened food donation points around your house. You must find your closest donation point via the “Find local donation points” link above. If there isn’t a donation point around where you live, you are always welcome to donate at one further from your home.
On the designated collection times for your sector, a volunteer food collector will stand visibly in a public space with a box/bag used to collect food items for 30 minutes. The collector will stand 3m away from the box at all times.
Simply show up to Millpond Estate or Pynfolds Estate between 6:30 PM and 7:00 PM, walk up to the collection box, and drop in your nonperishable and sanitary goods while avoiding contact with the box
At the end of the week, our food delivery volunteer will circulate to food collectors, collect their packages and then deliver them to the Southwark Foodbank, part of the Trussell Trust and hosted by Pecan (charity number 801819), has decided to begin operating from a central distribution warehouse.
What to Donate? (Urgent Needs)
Milk (Long Life/UHT)
Tinned Mixed Veg
Tinned Meat (Pork and Non-Pork)
Fruit Juice (Long Life)
(toothpaste, toothbrushes, shower gel, deodorant, shaving foam, razors)
We decided to start by piloting the food bank donation points in Sector D. As of Monday 13th April 2020, the donation points will open at Pynfolds Estate and Millpond Estates.
Donation points will be open from 6:30 PM-7:00 PM from Monday to Thursday and run my NBCS volunteers. Please do not leave your house to donate food if you or anyone you have recently been in contact with has displayed symptoms of COVID-19
Once the Pilot is complete, we will roll food collection points across the entirety of the ward adding up to approximately 20 donation points.
If each donation point is to generate more than 10 kgs of nonperishable goods and sanitary products, we would generate at least 200 kgs of these essentials EVERY week.
If you are interested in becoming a donation collector, or to get added to our network of food delivery points, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org
